Tom O’Brien, a dedicated leader at NIST, passed away after a 29-year career. He held various leadership positions, including director of the NIST Boulder Laboratory and chief of PML’s Quantum Physics Division. Colleagues remembered him as wise, thoughtful, and perpetually encouraging. Despite facing personal challenges, Tom maintained an unswerving faith in his people and was a shining beacon of kindness and warmth at JILA. His legacy inspires continued supportiveness and esprit de corps among JILA staff.
