The article discusses the research activities of the Computing and Communications Theory group at NIST. The group conducts research in various mathematical and scientific disciplines to enable the development and analysis of current and future computing and communications systems. Their expertise spans combinatorics, graph theory, network science, optimization, quantum mechanics, and information theory, among others. The researchers apply their knowledge to fundamental models in physics, chemistry, biology, and information systems, as well as complex systems analysis, pattern recognition, and quantum computing and communications. They collaborate with NIST scientists and external researchers to develop, analyze, and apply mathematical methods and tools for critical measurement science problems at NIST, and establish mathematical foundations for the measurement science of information systems.
