John Messina, a long-time member of INCITS/Cloud38 and its vice-chair, has been awarded the INCITS Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the cloud computing and distributed platforms standards community. Messina has held various leadership positions, including Convenor of the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 38 Study Group on Future Work and chair of the INCITS/Ad Hoc on Cloud Computing Service Level Agreement Project. Despite the challenges of 2020, which included virtual engagements and SC 38 plenaries held at odd hours for US time zones, Messina took on the additional role of Cloud38 secretary and demonstrated remarkable leadership skills in creating US consensus positions, managing the smooth running of Cloud38, and advancing US interests in SC 38. The INCITS Service Award is typically presented to no more than four participants who have provided outstanding service to the INCITS organization through committee work or duties during the past year.
