Dr. Jacob Taylor is a prominent figure in the field of quantum computing, with a distinguished career spanning research, government service, and academic leadership. After initially studying astrophysics, Taylor shifted his focus to quantum computing during his graduate studies at Harvard. He has held positions at MIT and NIST, where he founded and led the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS) to foster collaboration between computer scientists and physicists working on quantum technologies.
In addition to his research contributions, Taylor has played a key role in shaping national quantum computing policy. From 2017 to 2020, he served as the first Assistant Director for Quantum Information Science at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and founded the National Quantum Coordination Office. His efforts helped establish the National Quantum Initiative and advance high-performance computing through the National Strategic Computing Initiative’s 2020 strategic plan and the COVID-19 HPC Computing Consortium.
