Nick Butch, a scientist at NIST, has been named a 2023 Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS). This prestigious honor recognizes his extraordinary contributions to the field of quantum materials research.
Butch’s work focuses on the synthesis and experimental study of exotic superconducting, magnetic, and topologically nontrivial quantum materials. These materials exhibit unique properties that could lead to breakthroughs in quantum computing, energy storage, and other advanced technologies.
The APS Fellowship Program was established to recognize members who have made significant advances in physics through original research and publication, or have made innovative contributions to the application of physics in science and technology. Election to Fellow status is a distinct honor, as it signifies recognition by one’s professional peers. Each year, no more than 0.5% of the Society’s membership (excluding student members) is selected for this honor.
