The U.S. government is strengthening its support for standards development to promote standards that are technologically sound and help American industry compete on a level playing field. This includes the USG NSSCET Implementation Roadmap, which provides recommendations and actions for implementing associated strategies. The National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology emphasizes U.S. government support for our private sector-led standards system and engagement in international standards for critical technologies to strengthen U.S. leadership and competitiveness in standards development.
The U.S. government and industry stakeholders collaborate on international standards development through public-private partnerships. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and industry partners work together to enhance practical understanding of these partnership models and engage on critical emerging technologies. A cooperative agreement between NIST and ANSI focused on enhancing the practical understanding of public-private partnership models was completed. The project report, “Enabling Standards Development Through Public-Private Partnerships”, is available and highlights effective collaboration methods between U.S. government and industry stakeholders.
The Standards Information Center will provide resources and opportunities for stakeholders to share input as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen U.S. leadership in international standards development. NIST’s Standards Coordination Office is available for engagement and collaboration on standardization efforts, including consideration of quantum-specific standards and future stakeholder events.
