Introducing Cybersecurity Insights: Director’s Corner | NIST

NIST has launched a new blog series called “Director’s Corner,” which provides insights into its cybersecurity work through interviews with division leaders. The first post features Matthew Scholl, head of the Computer Security Division (CSD), who highlights NIST’s role in developing global cybersecurity standards and encryption methods that protect electronic commerce and financial systems.

A major focus for NIST is preparing for the future threat of quantum computing, which could break current encryption methods. To address this, NIST is working on developing new “quantum-resistant” cryptographic standards through an open and inclusive process with global partners. These efforts aim to ensure secure communications even as quantum technology advances. Until these new standards are finalized, Scholl recommends that organizations begin preparing for a future transition to quantum-safe encryption.
