Devices to Measure Temperature (and More) with Light | NIST

Researchers at NIST are developing new photonic temperature and pressure sensors that could revolutionize industrial and biomedical temperature measurements. The devices use fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) and ring resonators to measure temperature and pressure changes through changes in light wavelengths.

The project aims to create self-calibrating, integrated photonic sensors that can be produced using existing nanofabrication technology. These sensors could significantly reduce costs, time, and resource requirements for industries while enabling new micro- and nanoscale technologies.
