NIST Requests Round Two Comments on its Cryptographic Standards Process | NIST

NIST, the U.S. standards and technology institute, is seeking public feedback on its revised draft document outlining the principles and processes for developing cryptographic standards and guidelines. The second draft, NIST IR7977, provides additional detail and identifies new policies and procedures compared to the initial draft released in February 2014.

Key changes include new principles for ensuring the usability of standards and guidelines, encouraging innovation while protecting intellectual property. The draft also explains how NIST will ensure balance, transparency, openness and integrity in its cryptographic standards development process, while posing several questions for reviewers.

NIST will finalize the document in 2015 after reviewing comments received. The document can be found at http://csrc.nist.gov/publications/PubsDrafts.html#NIST-IR-7977, with comments to be submitted via crypto-review@nist.gov.
