NIST’s Liddle, Spielman Elected APS Fellows | NIST

Two NIST scientists, Alex Liddle and Ian Spielman, have been elected as American Physical Society (APS) Fellows. This prestigious honor is given to only 0.5% of APS members who have made significant contributions to physics.

Alex Liddle, from NIST’s Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology, was recognized for his work in nanofabrication and nanolithography techniques. This includes projection electron beam lithography, high-resolution X-ray optics, and the use of diblock copolymers and chemically amplified resists. Liddle will receive his fellowship award at the APS annual meeting in March 2013.

Ian Spielman, from NIST’s Quantum Measurement Division, was honored for his innovative research in quantum phenomena at the intersection of atomic and condensed matter physics. He has made significant contributions using quantum simulation with ultracold atoms, including the creation of artificial electromagnetic fields and spin-orbit coupling. Spielman will receive his award at the DAMOP annual meeting in June 2013.
