Two NIST Physicists Win 2007 PECASE Honors | NIST

Two NIST physicists, William Rippard and Raymond Simmonds, have been awarded the prestigious Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2007. The PECASE is the highest honor given to early-career researchers in the United States.

Rippard’s work focuses on creating new electronic devices based on the spin of electrons, while Simmonds is a leader in quantum information science, researching potentially powerful computer designs based on quantum physics. Both scientists work at NIST laboratories in Boulder, Colorado.

The PECASE program was established in 1996 and is sponsored by eight federal departments and agencies, including NIST. Winners receive up to five years of funding to further their research in support of critical government missions.
