High Resolution Powder Diffractometer – BT-1 | NIST

The NIST BT-1 high resolution neutron powder diffractometer is a powerful research tool for crystallographic analysis. It features 32 detectors and can be configured with different monochromators and collimators to suit various experimental needs. The instrument can operate at temperatures from 0.3 to 2000 K using various cryogenic systems, and can collect data in the presence of magnetic fields.

Access to the BT-1 is available through both mail-in and collaborative research options. For mail-in service, users submit proposals and send samples to NIST. Collaborative access requires contacting an instrument scientist. Proprietary research requires an agreement through NIST’s Industrial Partnerships Program.

All research using the BT-1 must acknowledge NIST’s support and be cited in NIST’s annual report.
