The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) participated in a White House summit focused on developing standards for critical and emerging technologies (CETs). The summit discussed the U.S. Government National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology (USG NSSCET), which aims to promote technologically sound standards to support American industry and complement private sector-led standards activities.
The USG NSSCET Implementation Roadmap outlines actions the U.S. government can take to increase investment in pre-standards development for CETs, broaden participation in standards development, grow a CET standards-savvy workforce, and ensure inclusivity and integrity in the standards development process. NIST published a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public input on implementing the strategy and held stakeholder events.
The roadmap recommends immediate and long-term actions for the government to achieve sustained implementation outcomes, including increasing investment in pre-standards development activities, broadening CET standards participation, growing a CET standards-savvy workforce, and ensuring inclusivity and integrity in the standards development process.
