NIST, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is asking for public input on how to implement the National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology (USG NSSCET). The goal is to develop high-quality standards that support American industries and ensure the U.S. remains competitive globally, especially in areas with major economic or national security impacts. The strategy aims to work alongside private sector efforts and promote open, consensus-based international standards.
NIST is seeking ideas on how to better engage stakeholders, remove barriers to international standard development, and improve government support for these efforts. The input will help shape an effective implementation plan. The public has until December 22, 2023, to submit responses, and NIST will host events to discuss the strategy further. All responses will be posted online for transparency.
