NCNR Facility Upgrades during the Unplanned Outage | NIST

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is upgrading its cryostats at the NCNR facility during an unplanned outage. The original orange cryostats have a single 1.5 K heat exchanger, which takes hours to prepare and change samples. NIST is upgrading these cryostats with additional heat exchangers, increasing cooling power and reducing preparation and sample changing times to under half the original time. Two cryostats have been upgraded so far, with two more planned for next year.
