The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed the FASCAL 2 facility, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to calibrating spectral irradiance standards. The facility uses a high-temperature blackbody operating at nearly 3000 K to calibrate the responsivity of double-grating monochromators, which in turn are used to calibrate calibration lamps. The facility employs a double-grating monochromator with photomultiplier tube, silicon diode, and extended-InGaAs diode detectors, providing wavelength coverage from 220 nm to 2500 nm. Four independent lamp stations are used within the facility for spectral irradiance calibrations, enabling reliable and accurate measurements across the specified wavelength range.
