Preliminary Draft NIST SP 1800-40A: Automation of the NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program | NIST

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released a preliminary practice guide titled “Automation of the NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program” for public comment. This guide is part of NIST’s initiative to modernize its Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) and address the increasing demand for the latest technology, cryptographic module fixes, and patch releases.

The practice guide aims to reduce the length of the validation cycle while maintaining and improving assurance levels. It outlines a new approach to automation that will enable faster and more efficient validation of cryptographic modules. This will help to reduce the time and effort required to validate new modules, while also improving the overall quality of the validation process.

NIST is seeking feedback on this preliminary practice guide through July 25, 2023. Your expertise and insights can help inform and shape later volumes of this guide.
