Dr. Tobias Herman, a distinguished scientist at NIST, has been recognized for his exceptional leadership and dedication to advancing thermodynamic metrology. Herman has made significant contributions to the Thermodynamic Metrology Group’s temperature and humidity calibration services, as well as the NIST-on-a-Chip’s photonic thermometry commercialization project.
Under Herman’s guidance, the ITS-90 calibration lab underwent a major rebuild, ensuring the continued viability of the US link to the kelvin scale. He also led the effort to deliver K9 inter-comparison results, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of measurement accuracy.
Furthermore, Herman played a crucial role in the CRADA program aimed at commercializing NIST-developed photonic thermometry. He successfully managed the collaboration between NIST researchers and their commercial partner, balancing competing interests and implementing project management tools to ensure the project’s progress from one milestone to the next.
