Dr. William Rippard is a leading researcher at NIST’s Quantum Electrodynamics Division, where he leads the Spin Electronics Group. The group focuses on developing advanced metrologies for spin-based devices, with a focus on electron transport, heat flow, and spin excitations. Their work aims to advance novel computing devices, neuromorphic hardware, and quantum-enhanced magnetic sensing.
Dr. Rippard received his BS degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Florida in 1994 and his PhD in Applied Physics from Cornell University in 2000. He joined NIST as an NRC postdoctoral fellow in 2000 and became a permanent staff member in 2004. His research has resulted in over 70 peer-reviewed publications, including high-profile journals like Nature and Physical Review Letters. He has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2008 and a patent in 2019.
