Dr. Ana Maria Rey, a theoretical physicist, has been awarded the prestigious 2023 Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship by the Department of Defense. This highly competitive award provides $3 million over five years to support groundbreaking research with potential for transformative impact.
Rey’s research focuses on “Harnessing Long-lived Multi-level Atoms in Optical Cavities for Quantum Simulation and Sensing.” She aims to develop theoretical models to guide experiments exploring the complex physics of photon-mediated interactions and multi-level atomic systems in optical cavities.
The Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship is the DoD’s most prestigious single-investigator award, recognizing researchers whose work has the potential to significantly advance scientific knowledge and benefit national security.
