The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is offering an 8-week summer internship program for high school students in its Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL). The program provides hands-on research experience in areas like antennas, wireless propagation, materials science, electronics testing, and communications network protocols.
One of the key projects involves developing techniques for networking superconducting quantum computers. This involves creating remote microwave entanglement using optical two-mode squeezed states and microwave-optical quantum transducers. The internship opportunity includes enhancing laser-cavity locking techniques, programming feedback control systems, and measuring quantum optical and microwave states.
The internship also includes practical experience in calibrating high-speed oscilloscopes and pulse generators using high-frequency circuitry and phased-lock loop techniques.
