DC-Area U.S. Government Agencies Announce the Washington Metropolitan Quantum Network Research Consortium, or DC-QNet | NIST

The U.S. government has established the Washington Metropolitan Quantum Network Research Consortium (DC-QNet) to advance quantum network capabilities. The consortium includes six agencies: the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Army Research Laboratory, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, the U.S. Naval Observatory, NIST, the National Security Agency/Central Security Service Directorate of Research, and NASA.

Quantum networks will enable secure distribution of quantum information among quantum computers, sensors, and devices over regional and national distances. They will also support ultraprecise time signal distribution and other emerging applications. The DC-QNet will create, demonstrate, and operate a quantum network as a regional test bed to advance this critical technology.
