Shannon Hoogerheide | NIST

Dr. Shannon Hoogerheide is a physicist at NIST focusing on precision measurements of fundamental physics using neutrons. Her research includes measuring the neutron lifetime, spin rotation of polarized neutrons, and searching for novel short-range forces. Hoogerheide is also involved in using neutron interferometry to study quantum materials and extending this technique to cryogenic samples. She works on neutron standards and dosimetry, including calibrating thermal neutron flux and high-dose neutron irradiations. Hoogerheide received her B.S. from Calvin College and Ph.D. from Harvard University, where she studied electron and positron magnetic moments. Prior to joining NIST, she was an NRC Postdoctoral Fellow working on highly charged ions and designing a miniature EBIT using compact permanent magnets.
