New Center for Advanced Science, Innovation and Commerce Comes Online at Auburn | NIST

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has dedicated a new $28.8 million research facility at Auburn University in Alabama. The Mike Hubbard Center for Advanced Science, Innovation and Commerce will support multidisciplinary research in areas like bioenergy, water quality, food safety, genomics, information science and ecosystem health.

The state-of-the-art facility includes 20 specialized laboratories, a supercomputer, seminar rooms and features like 5-ton cranes for biofuels work. NIST provided $14.4 million through its Construction Grants Program, which has funded 24 research facilities across the country in fields such as quantum physics, nanoscale measurement and earthquake simulation. The grants aim to advance science and technology to boost economic growth and international competitiveness.
