Melissa Midzor | NIST

Dr. Melissa Midzor has been appointed as the new Director of the Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) at NIST, effective November 2024. With extensive experience in communications technology, spectrum sharing, and public safety communications, Dr. Midzor brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role. She has been with NIST since 2018, where she has held key positions such as program manager of the National Advanced Spectrum and Communications Test Network (NASCTN) and chief of the NIST Spectrum Technology and Research Division. Prior to joining NIST, Dr. Midzor spent over 15 years at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and two years at the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Research and Engineering) Electronic Warfare and Countermeasures Office. She holds a Ph.D. in physics from Caltech and dual B.A. degrees in physics and sociology from the University of Colorado Boulder. Dr. Midzor is an active member of IEEE and AOC, and she holds a patent for “Technology for fabrication of a micromagnet on a tip of MFM/MRFM probe.”
