NIST’s Physical Measurement Laboratory offers various research programs for students and researchers across multiple disciplines. These programs include:
1. Summer High School Intern Program (SHIP): An 8-week unpaid internship for high school students to gain research experience in NIST labs in Boulder, CO or Gaithersburg, MD.
2. Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship: A 12-week hands-on research program in Atomic, Molecular, Optical, Radiation, and Chemical Physics.
3. Cooperative Study Program: A joint program with the University of Maryland leading to a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics.
4. Professional Research Experience Program (PREP): Provides laboratory experience and financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates, and postdoctoral researchers.
5. Research opportunities at the Joint Quantum Institute (JQI) and JILA: Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers can work at either the NIST or University of Maryland campus, focusing on quantum physics research.
These programs aim to provide valuable research experience and opportunities for students and researchers in various fields of physics and chemistry.
