NIST, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is asking for input on how China is involved in setting international standards for new technologies. This comes from a law passed in 2021 that asked NIST to study China’s influence on global standards. NIST hired a company called Makwa Global to do this study, and they are now collecting feedback from U.S. organizations and industry experts.
The goal is to understand how China’s policies might affect international standards and how the U.S. can stay competitive. Standards help countries work together, make trade easier, and speed up innovation. NIST plays a role in creating these standards by bringing people together and offering technical help. The final report from Makwa Global is due in early 2023, and people had until December 2021 to share their thoughts.
