6G researchers won international innovation challenge award

The AI-RAN team from the 6G Flagship at the University of Oulu received the Innovation Challenge Award at the AI-RAN Alliance meeting in Boston for their proposal to integrate artificial intelligence with wireless communication. Led by Dileepa Marasinghe, Miguel Bordallo Lopez, and Praneeth Susarla, the project focuses on using multimodal sensing to create real-time digital twins that allow radio networks to perceive and adapt to their physical environments. This recognition highlights the team’s work on closing the loop between the physical world and radio-aware digital twins, advancing the vision of AI-native, continuously learning wireless systems. The award underscores Oulu’s growing role as a key European center for 6G research and innovation in next-generation networks.
