The University of Oulu has joined the Digital Defence Ecosystem to integrate its expertise in 6G, AI, and microelectronics with Finnish defense technology providers. A key component of this collaboration is the establishment of a NATO 6G Test Centre in Oulu, which will feature advanced radio frequency measurement equipment capable of testing millimeter-wave frequencies. This facility aims to validate dual-use technologies that converge communications and radar functions using large antenna arrays and artificial intelligence. By leveraging Oulu’s Arctic conditions and existing mobile R&D leadership, the ecosystem seeks to accelerate the development of next-generation wireless solutions for both civilian and defense applications.
