The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking has officially launched to secure European industrial leadership in 5G and 6G technologies, backed by 900 million euros in European Commission funding matched by at least an equal amount from private stakeholders. The Governing Board adopted the 2021-2022 Research and Innovation Work Programme, which earmarks approximately 240 million euros for activities ranging from 5G evolution trials to frontier 6G research. This initiative aims to accelerate the green and digital transition through a roadmap that will define the next generation of smart network services over the 2021-2027 period. A public information day is scheduled for January 27, 2022, to inform the broader community about opportunities to participate in the upcoming call for proposals.
