ETSI’s first Smart Grid standardization workshop highlighted the critical need for collaboration between the power and ICT industries to integrate legacy and new technologies into a unified architecture. The event addressed key technical challenges including communication protocols, data management, privacy, security, and the integration of renewable energy sources and electric vehicles. European standards bodies ETSI, CEN, and CENELEC are coordinating efforts to fulfill a European Commission mandate for Smart Grid standards, while also engaging with international partners from Asia and North America. Feedback was collected from pilot projects and proposals covered architectures for home integration and efficient energy consumption management.
