ETSI has published the first five specifications for Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV), establishing a common framework and terminology to guide the industry toward interoperable solutions. These documents, developed in under ten months by the NFV Industry Specification Group, cover use cases, requirements, architectural frameworks, and a coordination plan for Proof of Concept demonstrations. The initiative aims to replace proprietary hardware with standardized servers to reduce capital and operational costs while accelerating the deployment of new network services. With over 150 companies now participating, the group seeks to foster an open ecosystem and maintain momentum for further detailed specifications in 2014.
