ETSI has established a new Industry Specification Group (IP6 ISG) to drive IPv6 integration into 5G systems and address the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses. The group will focus on developing best practices for governments, mobile operators, and emerging technologies like the Internet of Things and network virtualization. Led by Chair Latif Ladid, the initiative aims to ensure global connectivity and support the massive address requirements of future mobile networks. IPv6 offers a vastly larger 128-bit address space and enhanced features such as improved security and quality of service to meet these demands.
