ETSI has published six new NFV specifications covering VNF package structures, dynamic packet flow routing, and hypervisor domain requirements, alongside approving 18 new work projects. These efforts focus on defining unified API specifications to ensure multi-vendor interoperability and accelerate NFV roll-out by resolving current integration challenges. Key releases include REST APIs for management and orchestration (NFV-SOL 002 and 003) and a VNF package format based on OASIS TOSCA (NFV-SOL 004). The industry is now advancing toward NFV Release 3, which aims to provide operational guidance and address future topics like enhanced security and network slicing for 5G.
