The Droidcon MEC Hackathon 2020, organized by Intel, CISCO, TIM, Equinix, and the LINKS Foundation, concluded with UniMore winning the top prize for their Cognitive Mobility at the Edge automotive application. This winning solution leverages 5G MEC architecture and specific APIs, such as the MEC Location API, to provide low-latency notifications regarding traffic, congestion forecasts, and mobility patterns. The UniMore team, comprising researchers from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, will now have the opportunity to test their system within the Smart Road consortium in Turin. Future development plans for the project include integrating additional MEC APIs and evaluating performance using Digital Twins and microservices-oriented architectures.
