The ETSI Sustainability Summit highlighted that ICT must address its own carbon footprint while serving as a critical enabler for broader environmental goals. Key discussions emphasized adopting ESG goals, measuring avoided emissions, and prioritizing digital sobriety to reduce unnecessary energy consumption. Participants called for eco-design principles, extended equipment lifecycles, and systematic recycling to minimize ICT waste. To support this transition, ETSI groups TC EE, TC ATTM, and ISG OEU are developing standards that enable greener digital technologies and help the industry meet net-zero targets.
