ETSI publishes Report on 5G Wireless Backhaul/X-Haul – ETSI

ETSI’s millimetre Wave Transmission Industry Specification Group has released Report GR mWT 012, which outlines how microwave and millimetre wave technologies can meet 5G backhaul and X-Haul requirements for both early deployment stages and long-term mature networks. The document emphasizes that these wireless transmission solutions will remain fundamental pillars for service providers due to their advantages in capacity, latency, spectral efficiency, and cost-effective deployment. It further highlights the critical need for appropriate regulation and licensing to facilitate the increased network density driven by small cell implementation. The report concludes that evolving innovations in these technologies will ensure they satisfy future 5G demands for enhanced mobile broadband and ultra-reliable low latency communications.
