ETSI has published TS 103 479, a technical specification defining the core architecture for Next Generation 112 (NG112) to enable network-independent, multimedia emergency communications including text, video, and precise location data. This standard supports centralized mapping and routing functions that allow emergency calls to be forwarded from any concentration point to the appropriate call center based on the caller’s location. Complementing this, the Advanced Mobile Location (AML) technology activates a smartphone’s GNSS, Wi-Fi, and cellular sensors to provide location accuracy within 5 meters outdoors, significantly improving upon traditional cell tower triangulation. These specifications ensure interoperability and are increasingly mandated by regulations such as the European Electronic Communications Code to enhance responder efficiency and save lives.
