ETSI launches new group on Non-IP Networking addressing 5G new services – ETSI

In response to the inefficiencies of TCP/IP in 4G networks, ETSI has established the Industry Specification Group on Next Generation Internet Networks (ISG NIN) to develop alternative protocols optimized for 5G applications. This new group aims to reduce header sizes, lower latency, and decrease capital and operational expenditures by replacing legacy design principles with simplified, modern architectures. The initial focus will be on private mobile networks for factory automation before expanding to public core networks and radio elements. Key outcomes will include a report detailing TCP/IP shortcomings and a testing framework to validate the efficiency of the new protocols over radio links.
