ETSI releases IoT testing specifications for MQTT, CoAP and industrial automation and control systems – ETSI

ETSI has released new standards, specifically the TS 103 596 and TS 103 597 series, to provide comprehensive test suites for the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) and MQTT, covering conformance, security, and performance aspects. Additionally, the TS 103 646 specification defines a generic minimum security profile for IoT devices based on IEC 6244-4-2 requirements. These test catalogues utilize the Test Description Language (TDL-TO) and are supported by the Eclipse Foundation’s IoT-Testware project, enabling organizations to execute standardized MQTT and CoAP tests in laboratory environments. The work addresses critical quality assessment gaps for industrial IoT systems by establishing unified testing techniques for these essential communication protocols.
