ETSI has updated its EN 303 645 standard to include specific provisions for Home Gateways, recognizing them as a critical first line of defense against attacks from consumer IoT devices. To assist manufacturers in implementing these requirements, the committee released Technical Report TR 103 621, which provides a catalogue of practical examples for meeting the 13 cyber security and data protection mandates. This update builds upon the existing global baseline for consumer IoT security and includes a new template to facilitate the development of vertical standards for specific device categories like smartphones and smart door locks. By integrating these gateway protections, the standard aims to secure legacy devices and enhance the overall resilience of connected homes against malicious threats.
