The ETSI Encrypted Traffic Integration group has adopted new guidance on implementing the EU Council Resolution on encryption and will finalize a report in Q3 2022 to support the NIS2 directive. The group is actively developing mitigation strategies that promote a zero-trust model, establishing a “trust contract” where every network entity must explicitly prove its identity and actions to ensure secure end-to-end communication. These technical developments, including specific cryptographic and key management models, are scheduled for publication in late 2022 and 2023 to address legislative changes and stakeholder access needs. To ensure feasibility in deployed networks, the group is strengthening collaboration with ETSI committees on lawful interception, network virtualization, and application domains like eHealth and smart cities. Leadership for the new term includes Scott Cadzow as Chair and Tony Rutkowski as Vice-Chair.
