The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is developing new standards for quantum technologies, specifically targeting quantum dot films and a standardized photonics vocabulary. These projects, identified as IEC TS 62607-3-5, IEC TS 62607-3-4, and IEC 62607-47, are currently in the proposal phase with a closing date scheduled between July and December 2024.
The standards focus on defining test methods for light conversion efficiency in quantum dot films, which are critical for advanced displays and computing components, while the vocabulary standard aims to unify technical language across the industry. This work is intended to support the growth of nanotechnology and quantum applications by ensuring consistent measurement and communication protocols. Full implementation is expected to follow the proposal period later in the year.
