ETSI – ETSI Security Week 2019

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) highlighted efforts to develop Quantum-Safe Cryptography (QSC) standards during their June 2019 Security Week. A primary focus was on updating Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to remain secure against future quantum computers. Presenters from ETSI’s cybersecurity working group outlined strategies for migrating current systems to these new, more robust encryption methods.

These standards are currently under development, with the organization actively working on migration paths for the industry. The potential impact is significant, as it aims to protect sensitive data from being decrypted by powerful quantum machines that could break existing security. While no specific release date was provided, this work ensures organizations can transition to quantum-resistant technology in time to prevent future vulnerabilities.
