ETSI – TC CYBER Roadmap

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Technical Committee CYBER is actively developing standards to protect digital systems from future quantum computing threats. Through a dedicated Working Group on Quantum Safe Cryptography, the committee is producing specifications like TR 103 619, which guides organizations on migrating to encryption methods that remain secure even against powerful quantum machines. These efforts focus on combining traditional security with new quantum-resistant techniques, complementing global work by organizations like NIST.

Currently, this work is in the active development phase, offering recommendations and specifications rather than finalized mandates. The potential impact is significant, aiming to secure personal data, IoT devices, and critical networks against future decryption attacks. By providing practical migration strategies now, ETSI aims to ensure privacy and security remain intact as quantum computing capabilities grow, though no specific implementation deadline has been set.
