Recent reports by Draghi, Leta, and Heitor emphasize that advanced connectivity infrastructure is a critical pillar for European competitiveness, sovereignty, and security, acting as a catalyst for strategic sectors like microelectronics, telco cloud, and AI. This workshop, aligned with NetworldEurope and 6G-IA preparatory activities for the upcoming EU Framework Programme 10, brought together stakeholders to address challenges such as fragmented funding, limited innovation monetization, and long deployment timelines. Participants discussed how future smart networks can serve as multidisciplinary aggregators to drive European competitiveness, focusing on reshaping upstream R&D collaboration and optimizing downstream adoption. The event also featured a new 6G IA paper outlining a long-term perspective for smart networks and services, aiming to facilitate early engagement with FP10 objectives and shape future research roadmaps.
