ETSI and MIPI Alliance Announce Incorporation of MIPI I3C Basic into ETSI Smart Secure Platform – ETSI

The ETSI Smart Secure Platform (SSP) has adopted the MIPI I3C Basic bus specification as a new physical interface to enable higher data rates, simplified data transfer, and robust error detection while reducing power consumption. This update allows the secure platform to support multidrop configurations, making security services accessible to all connected devices and positioning the SSP as a potential successor to the Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC). The integration leverages I3C Basic’s low pin count, backward compatibility with I2C, and high performance to enhance scalability for 5G/6G networks and IoT applications. This collaboration between ETSI and MIPI Alliance marks a significant milestone for industry adoption of the SSP as a standard secure platform for mobile devices.
