ETSI IoT Week: semantics, experiences and security – ETSI

The ETSI IoT Workshop in Sophia Antipolis brought together policymakers, industry vendors, and academics to discuss the integration of ETSI, 3GPP, and oneM2M standards for a cohesive IoT ecosystem. Key technical highlights included the introduction of the SAREF ontology to enable semantic interoperability across energy, smart cities, and manufacturing domains, alongside hands-on tutorials for oneM2M open-source solutions. The event emphasized that security by design is essential for sustainable IoT deployment, with experts noting that long-term success relies on implementing interoperable standards rather than isolated solutions. Attendees also reviewed real-world applications from H2020 EU pilots and explored how 5G will further empower these emerging sectors.
