ETSI launches a new group on Terahertz, a candidate technology for 6G – ETSI

The ETSI ISG THz group has launched to define target scenarios and frequency bands for terahertz communications, focusing initially on high-data-rate mobile applications and dual communication-sensing use cases like holographic telepresence. The group will analyze existing research on radio propagation challenges such as molecular absorption and micro-mobility, while planning new channel measurements to develop standardized models and deployment strategies. By addressing line-of-sight requirements through Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces, the initiative aims to support future 3GPP 6G standardization and foster collaboration with existing ETSI working groups on millimeter-wave and RIS technologies.
