ETSI launches new group on Augmented Reality – ETSI

The ETSI Augmented Reality Industry Specification Group (ISG ARF) has launched to develop a standardized framework that ensures interoperability among AR components like tracking, pose estimation, and 3D reconstruction. Led by chair Muriel Deschanel, the group aims to prevent market fragmentation by defining common interfaces that allow different providers to integrate their solutions seamlessly. This initiative targets critical sectors including Industry 4.0, smart cities, healthcare, and mobility by enabling context-rich user experiences that combine sensors, wearables, and artificial intelligence. The group’s initial work involves analyzing the current standards landscape and use case requirements to establish a robust architecture for future AR services.
